T.K - The Problem

I’m a big supporter of the urban music scene in the U.K. It is the music that I’ve grown up with and provides me with inspiration for a lot of my creative work. While a small group of British artists are currently enjoying mainstream success and recognition, grass roots talent is regularly being overlooked. We are consistently producing high calibre lyricists with skills that surpass their major label backed counterparts in America. Hackney rapper T.K is no exception to this.

T.K released his mix tape, ‘The Problem’, yesterday. ‘The Problem’ is a dark collection of tracks, highlighting the inner conflict of a young man fully embedded in the streets but with a talent that may offer him a different path. T.K isn’t glamorising negativity, his lyrics reflect his existence and he effortlessly tells it like it is with his distinctive flow. There will always be critics who frown at the subject matter; those same critics will happily embrace rappers from across the Atlantic who rhyme about the same things. ‘The Problem’ captures the essence of underground U.K rap; the stand out track for me is ‘Stressed Out’, an intelligent and introspective analysis of the reality of road life.
